Surf Searcher Pro
Time for a second look at Surf Searcher Pro: the first time I reviewed this collection of search engines, I found it was missing a few of my favorites - particularly Northern Light. Not only has NL been added, but others that I find particularly useful (see my Effective Searching page) for translators, including Jeeves, Inference Find, and Google. This is now a fine one-stop search page without being overwhelmed by hundreds (thousands?) of choices. While there, check out Surf Searcher Select, which has a nice collection of search engines and other functions including currency converter, newsgroups, maps, encyclopedia, dictionary, computer terms, and more. Useful!

Nobo
Last winter, shortly after my hard drive was trashed by someone coming in through the Back Orifice worm and planting the Anthrax virus, I learned about Nobo. Read the FAQ to learn more. Of course, your virus protection is up-to-date, right? And your files are backed up? I suppose it's the fact that Defcon ("an annual computer underground party for hackers held in Las Vegas, Nevada") just took place that is making me think of this. Oh yes - I thought it would never happen to me...
